State govt procures 1.7 lakh tonnes of oilseed worth Rs 865 cr
Groundnut procurement for the kharif season 2018-19 has gathered pace in Gujarat as the State government has purchased about 1.7 lakh tonnes of the oilseed worth ?865 crore till December 24.
According to Gujarat Civil Supplies Corporation Limited officials, so far about 86,827 farmers have participated in the procurement operations.
No space constraints
The government officials confirmed that there are no space constraints to store the groundnut as sufficient warehouses are available from the State Warehouse Corporation.
The officials also clarified that there were no shortage of woven sacks as the Civil Supplies department is ensuring adequate availability of the required infrastructure including weighing machines and sacks.
MSP + Bonus
Following an increased groundnut production, the State government had announced procurement of the oilseed at the minimum support price (MSP) of ?4,890 a quintal, and a bonus of ?110 by the State government.
The State has projected kharif groundnut output for 2018-19 at close to 27 lakh tonnes, about five lakh tonnes lesser than last year’s record 32 lakh tonnes.
The market prices hovered in the range of ?4,375-4,530 per quintal at various markets in Saurashtra on Monday.
The process of registration for procurement had begun from November 1, while the procurement from the designated 122 centres across APMCs started in November 15.
Last year, following record groundnut production, the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (Nafed) had purchased over 8 lakh tonnes of groundnut.
According to sources, some portion of last year’s crop is still lying with the warehouses even as the fresh procurement by the State Civil Supplies Corporation is on.
